As a family dental practice, Childsmile is key to the service we provide our patients
Your health visitor or public health nurse introduces you and your children to Childsmile. They provide oral health advice along with a free toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.
Register your baby with us as soon after birth as possible or at least as soon as the first tooth appears. From then on, bring your child to the dental practice every six months, or as advised by the dental team. The younger a child is, the easier it will be for them to get used to the sights, sounds and smells of a dental practice.
We aim to make the experience as fun and as enjoyable as possible. Our dental nurse, Karen, provides the Childsmile programme from birth until the age of five. She will give you help with toothbrushing, provide diet advice and apply fluoride twice yearly from the age of two.
The kids love her smiley dragon (look out it squirts water!) not to mention the Winnie-the-Pooh smock!
We’re confident that with the right care and advice, your child can grow up with healthy teeth and a confident smile.
It is important to keep teeth healthy right from the beginning to avoid pain, infection and the need to take teeth out under general anaesthetic.
First teeth need to fall out naturally. The last baby tooth will not normally fall out until the child is about 12-years-old. Early loss of milk teeth can lead to crowding when adult teeth come through and can mean lengthy corrective treatment in later years.
