Childsmile-providing a family service

At Clyde Munro Dental Group, we’re a family of dental practices who are fully dedicated to providing a wide variety of dental services to your entire family. This is why we’re pleased to be part of the excellent Childsmile programme, a scheme that was specifically designed to improve the oral health of children in Scotland.

Childsmile will first get in contact when a child is just three months old. Many parents are often unsure when they should bring their little ones to the dental surgery for the first time, at Clyde Munro we truly believe in the ethos of the earlier the better. This is simply because we find that it helps children to feel comfortable and used to the surroundings of their dental practice from a young age, hopefully reducing the likelihood of feeling scared, nervous or anxious about dental appointments in later life.

What you can expect

From here on, under the Childsmile programme, appointments are made for children to attend the dental practice regularly from just six months old. The reason for this early start is not just to allow children to become comfortable within the dental setting, but also because we are able to provide useful advice to parents about the oral care required for babies and young children. This can cover various topics including weaning, diet, teething, and the effective cleaning of gums and new teeth.

Under Childsmile, all children in Scotland benefit from annual dental checkups and any treatment that may be required, as well as fluoride varnishing twice a year from the age of two years to give extra protection against decay. This treatment is quick and has been found to be highly effective, which is why we’re pleased to be able to offer this service to our young patients at Clyde Munro Dental Group under the Childsmile scheme.

Childsmile is a great programme and we’re very lucky in Scotland to be able to benefit from it. The advice is targeted towards different age groups of children, meaning that it helps to keep them interested in their own care too, which is an excellent start in maintaining a good oral care regime for a lifetime. This is something we’re very passionate about at Clyde Munro, because a healthy smile is a happy one!
